The Little Marine

When Josh picked the kids up on Friday, James' teacher asked Josh if he was a marine.  Josh said no but explained that his father was.  His teacher said, "Okay we were just wondering because that is the nickname we have given James because he is so tough and strong."  That was probably the best thing anybody could have told Josh about his son.

Now we all refer to him as the little marine because he IS so tough and strong.  He always has a scrape, a bruise, a bump or a knot on his head.  It concerned me at first because Emma never even has so much as a scrape.  Now that it has been almost a year, I realize that it's just part of being a boy.  He is rough and tumble...and I do mean tumble...he is always falling and rolling around.

He is always on the go.  I'm not exaggerating when I say that he never stops moving.  Even in his sleep he rolls around.  You can't hold him still and don't even try holding him down.  You can easily break a sweat while trying to change his diaper.  Sometimes it takes me and Josh to get the diaper securely on.

Sometimes he exhausts even himself...and he finally just gives out.

He will probably one day eat us out of house and home.  The other night we were eating shrimp for dinner and he just kept eating and eating.  The boy ate more than I did!  Emma said at the end of the meal, "Daddy, he's your son for sure."  She is right about that...

James is all boy and I couldn't be more in love with him.  When Emma was a baby I was so glad I had a girl because I just didn't think I could be a "boy mom."  I'm jumpy and nervous and I like things tidy.  James is doing his VERY best to fix all of that.  I'm pretty sure he is going to toughen me and his sister up.  I love being this boy's mommy!

We started the afternoon going for frozen yogurt...

What is Teddy Tennis?

Emma came home one day from school and said she took a Teddy Tennis class that day.  Josh and I just looked at each other and then back to her and asked, "What is Teddy Tennis?"

She tried to explain it to us but honestly it just sounded strange and we had no idea if there was real tennis involved or if there were a bunch of bears all over the place.  She was so over the top excited about it though that we signed her up.

A couple of months later we got a note saying they were having a day where the parents could visit and come watch them play Teddy Tennis.  Of course Josh and I were all over it.  We both made SURE that we were there.

THIS IS TEDDY TENNIS:

They do all sorts of games and bear names are involved but it is centered around tennis.  For example, Ready Teddy is what they call it when it's time to get in their tennis ready position and Head Ted is what they call the person in charge of each game.  One of the pros from the country club teaches them and Emma just loves her.

She did good and you could tell how much fun she was really having.  She said she liked it even more than ballet!  We're not sure she'll ever be considered "sporty" but we'll go with it.  They all got certificates at the end of the class with a shirt and a medal.

We wanted to encourage her new sporty side so we bought her a tennis racket so that we could practice at home.  She's gets better every time she plays!

Playing at the farmer's market

Jay and Emma signed their names on the board at the Farmer's Market (and Emma signed James' name too since he couldn't do it himself).

In the highchair that was my mom's, my brother's and mine, and now all of the grand children's.  This chair has seen a lot of food!

Look at those eyes!

That's my boy.
