We took a trip to New York City! It was me, Emma, my parents and my nephew, Jay. Here are some of the highlights from our 3 1/2 day adventure...
Day 1: Thursday, May 28
We had to be at the airport early...me and Emma are not morning people.
But once we took off, she was all smiles.
When we arrived, we walked over to Madison Square Park from the hotel while we waited for the others to land.
We also ventured to a Lego Store where Emma built a frog. It's a stretch, but trust me, all of the details were well thought out.
Jay and my parents made it to the hotel. Sweet cousins!
Jay & Emma's first subway ride. It was not easy to figure out the subway system, but we conquered it!
We took the subway to Central Park and got the kids snow cones. Here is my mom and the kids taking a much needed rest after all of our walking.
Emma & Jay with Balto, the noble sled dog statue, in the middle of the park.
Doing her best to finish the snow cone without getting any on her outfit.
Playing in the sandbox at the Conservatory Water in the park.
Having a deep discussion about the ducks in the pond.
Jay saw this rock and "needed" to climb it and have his picture taken. He said, "Sometimes you just need to."
Waiting for our train to come in the subway station.
We ended the night with dinner in Time Square.
Day 2: Friday, May 29
Brunch before we visit the Statue of Liberty
On the ferry to see THE statue.
Inside the museum we saw the original torch.
We also saw the molds they used to build her,
We had to climb a lot of stairs, but we made it up to the pedestal of Lady Liberty. The view was awesome!
These are the additional stairs you have to climb in order to get from the pedestal to the crown...I'm not that sad that this was booked for months in advance and we weren't able to do it.
Me and my dad.
Me and my girl.
A panoramic view.
Once we walked back down to the bottom, Emma borrowed my sunglasses so that she could get a really good look at the Statue of Liberty, She was enthralled. Visiting the statue was her favorite part of the whole trip.
Emma gazing up.
We tried to get a picture of her "holding" the statue, but it didn't quite work out because she couldn't get her hand straight enough,..
...so we just did this shot instead. Go with it.
Later that afternoon, my mom and I took the kids to Dylan's Candy Bar. It is two floors of any candy you can imagine plus on the top floor they have food and ice cream.
The kids shared a mint chocolate chip milkshake and they both LOVED it...although Jay got full and couldn't finish his...
...But don't worry, Emma polished his off with no problem.
My mom and I shared the caramel cookie milkshake. One word: WOW.
That night we all went to the Empire State Building. It was a perfect night for it because it was nice and breezy up there and the sky was clear. We could see for miles and miles.
Taking in the view.
Me and my mom at the Empire State Building. Great way to end the night.
Day 3: Saturday, May 30
About to get fueled up before we head to the zoo.
Jay always wants to make silly faces when we take pictures, so this time, I told him that we would do a silly one.
Jay and Emma at the monkey house.
The Bug Carousel - Emma on the caterpillar.
And Jay on the grasshopper.
Emma being a monkey.
Look hard and you'll see the Okapi...even though its legs resemble that of a zebra, it is most closely related to the giraffe.
Riding the Wild Asia Monorail.
Posing for a picture outside the gorilla house.
On Saturday night, we went to see a Broadway play - The Lion King.
Getting ready for curtain to go up.
The whole gang - with two extras than we came with...two baby Simbas to commemorate the event.
Day 4: Sunday, May 31
We had time for one more meal before we all hit the road to the airport.
Dad & Jay
Emma
Me and my mom
Once we got the airport, we had some waiting to do. But at least I had a cute travel companion to keep my company.
It was a wonderful trip and we enjoyed spending time with my parents and Jay, but the fast paced NYC life isn't for these two southern girls. We were so happy to get back home and see Josh and James!
